Dear Lord, from my perspective, there is danger in conversational prayer with you. I have to be very careful, or I can put words in your mouth that you did not say. This way, I can hear what I want to hear and do what I want to do.

Yes, my child. Some think they hear from me when they are really hearing from their subconscious mind, which wants its own way.

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, and Holy Spirit – Blessed Trinity, please protect me from ever doing that. I don’t want to hear anything but you.’

Well, child, then read my Holy Word. You can rest assured that what you read “IS” me talking to you.

I believe that, Lord Jesus. I believe that your Holy Scriptures are without error in the original Hebrew and Greek. Lord God, I have 45 minutes left with you this morning and want to make the most of it. Where would you have me read today? Please show me. There are 66 books; your Word is so vast. I want to hear from you.

Go get your Bible. I am your Holy Spirit. I will lead you.

Thank you, Holy Spirit. I appreciate you. But to start off, first:

A: Adoration; I adore you and praise your Holy Name.

C: Confession; I confess that I am a sinner and ask that you cleanse me of any and all sins on my soul.

T: Thanksgiving; Thank you for making me clean before you.

S: Supplication; Please lead me and guide me throughout this day to serve you and all whom you have me talk to today. May I faithfully discharge my duties to you, for you, and by you. Amen.

SCRIPTURES

Holy Spirit, I believe you led me to James 2:26: “As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.” How does this relate to me right now? What are you trying to tell me? What message do you have for me?

Keep reading, my child.

James 3:17 resonates with me, Holy Spirit, Lord God: But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Child, this is how you can test your conversational dialogues with me. Does it meet this criteria?

Yes, Lord. It is not what I want but what you want. It must be pure and impartial. How do I ensure that it is, when my subconscious is so powerful and potentially deceptive?

James 5:16 “Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” So, Lord, what I am hearing is this: In order for our prayers, of any sort, to work, we must be righteous in your sight. And, we have no righteousness of our own. It is all from you.

CONCLUSION

  1. Be careful what you “think” you hear from God if it is not found directly in His Holy Word.
  2. Be righteous; you can’t hear accurately from the Holy Spirit unless you are “clean” before the Lord.
  3. Be open and transparent with others about your “sins.” Find people you can trust and be totally transparent with your trusted inner circle.
