DISCIPLESHIP WITH CHRIST
Lord, from what I understand, today you want me to meditate on discipleship with you. A search of your Holy Word makes a compelling case:
STEP 1: DECIDE TO FOLLOW CHRIST
FISH FOR PEOPLE: Matthew 4:19-20 NIV: “‘Come, follow me,’ Jesus said, ‘and I will send you out to fish for people.’ At once they left their nets and followed him.”
BE OBEDIENT: Matthew 28:19-20 NIV: “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” and John 8:31-32: “To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, ‘If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.'”
STEP 2: DECIDE TO SERVE OTHERS
LET GO OF OUR OWN DESIRES: Luke 9:23 NIV: “Then he said to them all: ‘Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.'”
SERVE OTHERS: Philippians 2:5-7 NIV: “In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.”
STEP 3: TAKE ACTION
DEMONSTRATE LOVE NIV: John 13:34-35: “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
PASS IT ON: 2 Timothy 2:2 NIV: “And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others.”
Father God, Christ Jesus, and Holy Spirit, the one and only true God of the universe and God of all people, please cleanse me of anything that stands in the way of my usefulness to you.
Dear child, you are my disciple. You are following me. I will give you strength to over come your self and your selfishness and self centeredness. I have made you free for this very reason that you would devote your life to me. Trust me with all your heart, mind, body and spirit. Give me all of you. Hold nothing back. Fully surrender to me and I will give you great love, joy, peace, and serenity in this world, and total bliss in the next as you live and reign with me in eternity. Be bold in your abandonment of your self to me. You can trust me, fully and completely. You don’t need to worry about what your life, and what will happen to you if you fully abandon yourself to me. Fear is of the enemy. Fear will hold you back from fully letting go. Give me all of you as I have given you all of me. You have everything you need. Turn your life over to my care with complete and utter abandonment. You will never regret doing so. My yoke is easy and my burden is light. I love you child, more than you will ever know in this earthly vessel. Keep your eye on the prize, which is the position that is rightfully yours in heaven. Let go of all earthy rights. Live the rest of your earthly existence in service to me and my will for you. I have a plan for your life. Follow that plan and you will experience the greatest love, joy, and peace possible in your earthly form.
Lord, thank you for speaking into my life today. You have been very encouraging and it has helped me to increase my motivation to be a Christ-follower, help others to follow you, and help others to help others to follow you. Amen.
