EGO – EDGING GOD OUT

Lord, thank you for this lesson today about EGO: Edging God Out. It is a great way to remember that this is not about me, but it is about you.

Dear child, as you work on yourself, here, you are helping my children work on themselves. Keep this up.

E – EDGING

God, help me to not edge you out of my life. Help me not look to satisfy my desires, or ambitions. Help me not to disconnect myself from your Holy Spirit. Help me not to prioritize my ego over your Holy Spirit. I surrender to you, Father God, Christ Jesus, and Holy Spirit. “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” Matthew 6:33 NIV

Dear Child, “… if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14 NIV

G – GOD

Father God, you are the single authority on all ultimate wisdom, love, and truth and it transcends all human limitations. By staying connected to your Holy Spirit, I can better understand the purpose and meaning you have for my life, and pursue a path that leads to growth, inner peace, and fulfillment by surrendering to you. By edging God out, however, I risk losing my way and becoming consumed by my ego-driven desires and aspirations. “”Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV

Dear child, “For the Scripture says, ‘Whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.'” Romans 10:11 NIV

O – OUT

Father God, as a long-term Christ-follower, the ways that I push you out are more subtle and can manifest in various very seeming innocuous ways. Help me, Lord, to not become too busy to be involved in daily spiritual disciplines, like having a daily quiet time. Lord, please help me not to prioritize my careers, social life, or material possessions above spiritual growth and my relationship with you. Help me not let my ego take control. Help me to prioritize the interest of others over my own self-interests. Help me put the well-being of others above my own. May I remain broken in every aspect of my life, so I can let your divine guidance of your Holy Spirit permeate every aspect. May my ego fade into the background. I must become less, so you can become more. “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus.” Philippians 2:3-5 NIV

Dear child, “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'” Jeremiah 29:11 NIV

SUMMARY

Lord God, in order to prevent me edging God out, help me to cultivate humility, self-awareness, and an openness to deferring to your wisdom, as found in your Holy Word – the Bible. Help me stay connected to you in every facet of my life, so I can have greater sense inner peace and fulfillment that transcends the fleeting pleasures of ego-driven pursuits. By surrendering to you, Father God, Christ Jesus, and Holy Spirit, I will live a more authentic and meaningful life, grounded in the love of Christ, the love of myself, and the love of others.

Dear child, and all my children: “Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.” Colossians 3:12-14 NIV

Lord, thank you for this lesson today.

Your aspiring servant,
Daniel M.
